- Employees are entitled to holiday, ante natal, maternity, paternity and shared parental leave pay.
- Employees have the right to be paid the National Minimum wage.
- The employees have the right to flexible working hours and can work a maximum of 48hrs a week (unless there is a mutual agreement between the employer and the employee to work more than 48hrs a week)
- It is essential for the employer to make sure that no employee is discriminated on the basis of:
o Religious beliefs or lack of religion
o Colour, race or ethnicity
o Sex or sexual orientation
o Being or becoming a transsexual person
o Being married or in a civil partnership
o For being pregnant or having a child
- If an employee has worked in a company for over a month, it is their right to be given a dismissal notice. Whereas an employee has a right to compensation for unfair dismissal and redundancy pay only if they have worked for more than two years.
- Employees on maternity, paternity or shared parental leave, have the same rights as their colleagues. They are entitled to pay raise or any improvements in the terms and conditions while on leave. If selected for redundancy while on leave they have the right to be offered any suitable alternative job.
- Employers need to make sure they provide a healthy and safe working environment for their employees.
- Employees have the right to be allowed to be a member of a trade union, by their employer.
